When thinking about party themes, it’s best to start with what your child likes. Such as characters, animals, colors, or a saying that they have. When it comes to playing the party, you can always use that as a baseline to get the materials you need. You also want to make sure you consider the time of day and year the party is taking place because some themes are not available all year round.
This post is about 2 year old birthday party themes.
Researching Good Party Themes
Birthday parties will be the most common theme. Especially for two-year-olds, since everything at this early age is to help build core memories, you go all out to make sure that the party is everything for your child. Since my child was born in January, the last two birthdays have had to be socially distant due to the pandemic. That didn’t stop me from making sure both birthdays were special.
You can read about what I did for my toddler’s first birthday here. You can watch the Instagram reels version of this below.
Since I have a son, the party themes were masculine. For my 1st birthday, I took a spent on “Madagascar” the movie and made it with an animal theme. For the 2nd birthday, it was “Marvel Superhero” themed. Below is an Instagram reel (follow me on Instagram) of what I did for his 2nd birthday.
Here are the details for the animal-themed birthday party.
Here are the details for the Marvel superhero party.
You’ll notice that for these themes, we tried to find as many items as possible that belonged to them. Cups, spoons, forks all make it easy to execute a theme. You also want to ensure that you are getting suitable adhesive for the theme. Since the items that come with the theme sometimes don’t hold up as much as you would like. You want to be fully prepared if you must tape, wrap or glue something together or back together.
Timing of Getting the Theme
We all know that there have been times that Amazon had delays with getting items to you in a timely fashion. You want to make sure that you plan out how far in advance you need to order the times depending on the time of year. If you live in an area prone to snow, you want to give yourself 2-4 weeks in advance to get the items. If you don’t live in an area prone to snow, you can do it 1-2 weeks in advance.
While Amazon will have most of the theme, there will be times you have to go other places to get the remaining items. Keep this in mind when it comes time to get the theme in time. Items like cake, personalized items, gifts may have to come from another source, so always keep those things in mind. This is where thinking about the colors and characters will also come into play. If Amazon only has a piece of it, you will have to go to other places, and you need time for that.
If you need to get the remaining items, Party City and Target will carry most of the things you will need to execute any party you are planning. Also, there will be times when the body count of events changes, so going to these places in person can save you the stress. However, you must make sure that you are going ahead of time since you might have to go to several locations before you can finish off the theme.
Do a practice run with a few of the items.
Let’s face it. Even though Amazon is convenient, there will be moments when the balloons pop, you are missing items, or it doesn’t complete the vision that you once had. Amazon has a decent returns policy, so if you open an article and things aren’t what they advertised, you can return it. Don’t wait until the day of the trial and see if everything will work. That is when you will get in the most trouble.
The items that tend to give the most trouble on the day of the party are balloons. Amazon doesn’t have the best balloons, which is why you want to make sure you are blowing up a couple to see what will happen. Personally, I’ve had balloons pop, or the theme didn’t come with a hand pump or a way to blow up the balloons, which let me have to source these items at the last minute.
You also want to make sure that there won’t be any discoloration for the items you get. Streamers can bleed, and so can plates, balloons, and other items that come inside of the set. So, these are the things you want to be mindful of. The earlier you order these items, you can return and get another one. That fixes the problem most of the time, but you want to be mindful as you go through this trial run process.
Take Pictures Before, During, and After
Now that you have the items needed, you can put together the theme without worry. Yes, your toddler at two will want to be involved. Finding ways to be a part of the action will keep them calm through all the excitement and allow you to make sure the child isn’t going to be allergic to any of the items in them.
Taking pictures throughout your progress is essential. You want to make sure you have evidence in the event something happens. While you are putting the theme together to help with getting a refund if you need it. With the two themes that I have obtained from Amazon, I haven’t had too many issues. Everything went fine, but you want to be prepared if something does go wrong.
